dear reader(s)
more hs
I was explaining about Hedi Slimane today and I would like it very much if you would put up some pictures of him / people ripping off his style. Also, dissect his style and the meaning of it.
thank you,

Hello Kitty...

It is clear to me now that God gave me a blog so that I could share this with the world:
"CRASH HELLO KITTY Faux Fur Belt Bag by STIGMATA. Cut and frayed at the edges for a rough look, this cool belt bag hooks on to your belt loops!"
At http://maruione.jp/en/
What you are looking at is a BLACK, FUZZY, GOTH, HELLO KITTY FANNY PACK.
*edit, I am for this product. So very, very for this product. Just look at the joy in that girl's eyes! I really must stress that I am not being sarcastic. I love Hello Kitty.

Calvin Klein FW09?!?!?!!?

I was reading The Cut today, and they had an update from yesterday on runway shows. This one caught my eye. The collection ranges from the above, sleek, black, futuristic but with a grunge/punk influence to a decidedly mod influence. The range in textures is also impressive and nearing the end of the show, there was a silver/grey colour introduced, then a very yellow, saturated gold and lastly a sort of jewel-tone green. I really liked the combination of silk/matte/opague/not-opague/actual holes...I guess I have a hard on for futuristic style that I have not expressed on this blog before. It's obvious that I am into Mod Fashion and Sweet Lolita Fashion...can someone explain to me why I like this F/W09 Collection by CALVIN KLIEN ?!?!

*please note the fantastic future shoes! I must beat up michelle and take hers....or somehow get the beautiful, feminine, take on mary janes seen above. Also, these dresses are just drop dead gorgeous - I find that neckline so flattering.
I don't really like the hair an make up. I'm all for the messy hair thing, and I think the headbands/hair tied back thing is nessisarily futuristic/utilitarian looking...and I do like the extremely natural look, where it seems like the models aren't wearing make up at all. But... I don't like this. I think perhaps I am too much of a fan of blush and lip gloss to dig this.
My Fashion Icon
My favourite part of this look is obvs the dress. Everyone else is so into nuetrals right now... I think those people serve as a great backdrop for this sort of AWESOME, fun, dramatic, easter dress. And yes, yes, yes the empasis is on her crotch! That's why Bai Ling is my inspiration. The silk pink horizontal band is like a neon treasure trail.

Barbie, then and now...try to spot the differences
Above, the Barbie Debut doll, a "silkstone" doll designed by Robert Best to accompany the vintage reproduction of the very, very first Barbie doll - if you did your homework, in 1959. The Barbie on the left is "African American". YEA RIGHT. She's Mulloto, hispanic at best. According to Barbiecollector.com, "This is the first time the #1 Ponytail Doll has been reproduced as an African American! ... It felt like one of those moments that was such a good fit and a natural evolution. To pay tribute to the past while pointing out a difference in where we are today." - Robert Best says, in extremely poor english. He goes on, in equally deplorable sentences (if you can call them that) ... DONT PRETEND YOU ARE PROGRESSIVE BARBIE, YOU ARE NOT FOOLING ANYONE.
Barbie Education
As you know it is the 50th Anniversary of Barbie, on that note - EDUCATE YOURSELVES.
1. 50th Anniversary Website (includes, history, news, videos, ect)
2. Doll Reference 1952-1962 Mattel Vintage Barbie states that as of 2003 their estimation on the worth of doll is, Blonde = $7,500.00 , Brunette = $8,000.00

With Nathan
This is my approximation of the phone call that woke me out of my nap....any liberties I have taken with this conversation, which is meant to be in no way...making fun of Nathan...I just have to tell you because it made me smile! It was very life affirming.
N "They were sold out of pants"
K "I'm sorry... I didn't know you were shopping for pants."
N " I was at H&M"
K "Uh-Huh."
N "That. Place."
K "?"
N "Bo and I went there for the first time today...and she saw this dress that was identical to the one she bought at Value Village and wears every summer."
K "Yea, awesome."
N "NO. There was a time when people who dressed like that did so because they were poor - because they spent all their money on liquor - and then they combed Value Village for all the sweet hipster stuff. And then they looked like cool hipsters. BUT NOW ALL THE SWEET STUFF IS MASS PRODUCED AND VERY REASONABLY PRICED AT H+M.
K "Yes...Awesome?"
N "NO. Between the minimalist stuff at AA and the kitschy stuff at H+M there is no fringe style anymore, it's game over, they are selling my/our identity back to us. I'm only going to wear black t shirts and blue denim jeans and non-descript black shoes - if I can do it without looking too punk or survivalist - from now on, that's it, it's over!"
K "...Yea, I know, sorry about that, you can thank the internet for eliminating the gap between the fringe fashion and commercialist fashion. It's over-the-counter-culture."
N "Yea, I know that too, but - did you know that MOD fashion is coming back too?"
K " I don't think it ever left...It's pretty indistinguishable from the mainstream now, unless it's done with a very critical eye for authenticity."
N " No, but seriously, I was telling Bo about your style and the Quadrephenia parka I want and she said that her friends in New York are all about that 60s mod thing right now."
K "Yea, nothing happens in New York. Sweden. Tokyo. Without the internet letting me/us/Michelle/Veronica know. If blog-girls started wearing forks in their hair, I would know about it. I hope you've realized that I'm the coolest, most awesome-ly dressed person you know and you will quit liking other hipster chicks dumb tights and plaid and bruce springsteen 'fashion' better than mine."
N "........................... *long conversation that PRETTY MUCH is a resounding 'yes, kiki, you are the greatest queen of fashion'.* ......... IF anything, you need to dress MORE kiki-style. MORE like yourself. FUCK that spectre of comprimise/normalicy in your wardrobe. Go for head to toe full on sweet lolita."

Hello Kitty for MAC video
Wow. I have only seen this sans sound, at work, but HOLY SNAP guys...I will comment more on this in a bit. Just keep watching until you get past the giant magic cotton candy cooch and up to the mascot-head bdsm dancing hello kitty men in bondage.
It's almost like I directed this video. How could I do that without my knowlegde? It's less of a mystery than thinking that there is another person who likes Hello Kitty AND Bondage AND sweet lolita AND Alice and Wonderland as much as I do.
Barbie Runway - Post One of Many

"I always envision Barbie in that '60s mode - I made her mid- to late-'60s mod," said Miller. It's a version of a dress Miller put in her very first runway show, worn by Linda Evangelista. "It was the season she was a blond. I immediately thought of that outfit." (msnbc)

No Images, Sad Times
I walked by the future location of " http://www.sweetnancys.com/ " today and got very excited, but then saw the website about now I really don't care. Sad times. I guess I just assumed Betsey Johnson, Tarina Tarantino, Vintage clothes and asthetic, cupcakes, ect. But from the website, it looks like clothes designed for rich, older women.
It makes me want to make a list of all of the brands I would import if I had my own store.
I would start with "What Katie Did," A British lingere company that does coresets, lingere, ect...google them - guess which pair of knickers I am the most excited about.

LA CARMINA TALKS ABOUT KAWAII ADVERTISING IN THE WEST
"Harajuku is hot, so I’m not surprised that Harajuku Lovers, Tokidoki, and Tarina Tarantino are doing well, or that MAC is pairing up with Hello Kitty. It’s similar to how 1980s colors (blue yellow pink) and lightning bolts are everywhere. Advertisers follow trends in graphic design; I don’t think recent prominence of kawaii means much more than that. "
This post is a must read, because she comments on MizunoGarden condoms, work by a japanese artist...tokidoki has bags and toys, and I have two postcard books with japanese modern art, and murikami does fucking everything - but this is the first time I have seen an art collective do condoms. If I get famous, I'm not going to do a book or a denim line - I'M GOING TO MAKE KIKIBRAND CONDOMS.
Including a special brand for male or female oral sex, called Put it in your Mouth. One flavour will be "Say Ahhh" , one will be "Close Your Eyes, Bend Over, We're Experimenting" , "Just Relax" , "Happy Prom Night, Let's Have Anal Sex" , "Let's Just Snuggle"...
I'M SO FUNNY. (I joke, but I hope I'm not offending anyone. Non-consentual sex is NOT FUNNY OR HOT. Yes is sexy. Talk about what you want, don't spring it on your partner. TRUST AND INTAMICY ARE THE SEXIEST THINGS OF ALL.)
Seriously though, who wouldn't want to buy "Happy Valentine's Day, Now Put This Ball Gag in Your Mouth" (C) KIKIBRAND CONDOMS.

Betty's Boots

Betty's boots...
Which one of you posted these shoes before?
Now they are gone forever.
As if I could have afforded them anyways.
But they look pretty here!

Hello Kitty vs. Barbie
Hello Kitty and Barbie, Round 1

" Barbie, who turns 50 next month, is having a runway show on Feb. 14 in Bryant Park, with Barbie-inspired clothes by one group of designers. Hello Kitty was set to show off looks by another group at a party Thursday night given by MAC, which has also created a new Hello Kitty cosmetics collection. Marketing ploys, indeed, but they do raise the question: Who’s the bigger fashionista?
Let’s put it this way: Barbie is to Cindy Crawford what Hello Kitty is to Naomi Campbell. One is the conscientious workhorse of her oeuvre, with a heart of gold (or plastic) and an improbably perfect body; the other is more difficult to read, with a sinister streak lurking behind that sweet, beautiful facade."
Mr. Cortazar was willing to take a side when he was asked which he would prefer to have at his own show.“I would go with Hello Kitty,” he said. “There are enough girls coming to the show who look like Barbies already.”
All of a sudden, I have faith in journalism again. It is a noble profession.

more wedding photos including a crisp colour shot of her dress - you must click!

And last, a non-cropped/zoomed photograph of...
"First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy leaving the Capitol with her children, Caroline and John, Jr., and her brother-in-law, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, during President John F. Kennedy's state funeral. November 24, 1963."
I think that photograph is more magnanimous and arresting and symbolic than this one. The more I look at these photos the more I realize why this is a devastating tragedy in American History.

I can't even talk about this photo. source.
