Balmain FW 2019

like we did last year

let's twist again, like we did last summer.

seriously.

LOL: Young Girl

Young girl, get out of my mind // My love for you is way out of line // Better run, girl, // You're much too young, girl // With all the charms of a woman// You've kept the secret of your youth // You led me to believe // You're old enough // To give me Love // And now it hurts to know the truth, Oh, // Beneath your perfume and make-up// You're just a baby in disguise// And though you know // That it is wrong to be // Alone with me // That come on look is in your eyes, Oh, // So hurry home to your mama // I'm sure she wonders where you are // Get out of here // Before I have the time // To change my mind // 'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far, Oh, // Young girl...

Alright, the above photograph is a mostly naked woman in heels, a thong and a burka. As if that wasn't amazing enough - there is a disembodied man's hand covering her face. This is probably my favourite photograph of the year. Seriously.

I'm not trying to be offensive here, I think women can wear whatever they choose to and even though burkas have obviously oppressive connotations, that I certinally don't need to expound upon on my blog - SO DO HEELS.

It is not brought to the forefront of your mind as quickly as it is when looking at a burka, but when women wear high heels, it forces them to stand up taller, to push their ass out and their breasts forward. It's as obvious a mating dance as peacocks strutting or those monkeys with bright red bottoms.

So, the above photo can be interpreted many ways. The woman in the photograph is clearly subject to the patriarchy - not objectivified, but subjectified. She is highly sexualized, but her identity is obscured by traditionally hyper-conservative dress and A MAN'S HAND. Is it positive for her that she is a sex object but her identity is obscured? Is this anominity freeing? Or is this what immediately comes to mind, that we the purpotrators of the gaze (lol), desire her body but not her identity. Is her absence of identiy merely positioning her as an "everywoman"?

Again, my favourite part of the photo is the man's hand - there is so much tension in his hand. Is he about to pull off the burka? Is he merely adjusting it?

I really want to wear a burka or simply a veil next time I go out to the bar.

YEA! PONY PLAY!

Grace Kelly

Yes, that is Audrey Hepburn in the background.

I haven't yet mentioned Grace Kelly, well known is my love for Jackie O, Marylin, Farah Fawcett, Audrey Hepburn (one of these things is not like the others...), ect. But Grace Kelly is magnificent, as is January Jones being styled as her on Mad Men. I googled most of these images, the others I got from: http://starbucksandjane.blogspot.com/ .

January Jones, I love you

*FREAKOUT* This editorial blows me away, the red and blue lighting, the nudity, the racial diversity, the white stockings...it's everything I love about fashion. It even draws its influences from the art world, a la Marlene Dumas.

The aesthetic reminds me of the Natalia spread in V.

Orange Crush

TORO!

I really wish that was her actual hair and not a wig. If she could just gain a little weight, she would be my number one crush. I want to be famous just so I can list my style icons in interviews:

Milla at Cavalli French Boutique Opening

How dare she be so DEVASTATINGLY beautiful. Normally, my standard critique of dresses is not enough bows, not enough lace, but naturally, I have no criticisms for this dress. So beautiful, and I dare say the shoes she has chosen work even better than the ones on the runway. Also, perfect hair. It's times like this I need a rococo chaise lounge (read: lolita fainting couch) or a big fan that I can flap furiously in order to express my elation (much classier than the drooling I'm doing right now.)

Wednesday's Favourite Looks

Things I Like Today:

1. That it is a Wednesday, which means AMTN with Vero! I look forward to it all day! What will Vero be wearing?! What sort of fabulous things did she do today? What sort of hilarious commentary will she make on ANTM? It's the same thrill you get from reading her blog - only in real time!

2. Hot Pink Dior Dress, so girly and so perfect with her silky dark hair and fair skin. *drools*

3. Jessica Stam for some Toyko magazine or other. Like the girly hot pink and black, again, looking a little 80s/90s retro, which is not usually my fav, but today, I dig it. The black and white was the best photograph of her. Texture, beautiful textures of the rock and fabric. It's visually rich.

4. West Side Story Revisited spread by Vanity Fair, to celebrate the musical's return to broadway. I LOVE THIS MUSICAL. I want to watch it today, but only the good parts. I adore the white dress Belle wears in this photograph.

5. CANDY!!!

"Sangria" or Electric Hot Pink returns...

Light Bar Outtakes

Sometimes the outtakes are the most candid and sincere. Since Vero posted her favourites, I thought I would post something a little different, my favourite outtakes. - From Tuesday at Light Bar.
