In response to Michelle's query.
Who watches that?
I DO.
I've seen all the shows on the 700-ish pound man. It was only last week that my sister and I watched "My Skin Could Kill Me" , not because we wanted to, oh no, but because we couldn't look away. It was so tragic, I wanted to cry - and yes, it made me very, very glad that I am healthy. There is so much to be thankful for, the foremost of which is your health!
Watch the show here, read about Harlequin-type Ichthyosis here.

The Mentalist
The Mentalist is my favourite show on television. You ladies probably don't watch a lot of TV, but seriously - is he a dreamy hunk or what?

I know he looks a little like a ken doll in this picture, but on the show he is always laughing and smiling. I like people like that, it makes me want to be around them!
I know he is married, but I would love to write him fan mail. Do you girls know where one would get his contact information?
ex.
Dear Mr. Baker,
Hi! I love your television show, The Mentalist. I find your character's confidence and cheerfulness to be very attractive. Would you say you posses these qualities in real life? I'm sure that you do, you seem sincerely positive on television. In my fantasies, you have a GIGANTIC cock. It's okay if you don't in real life. I heard many celebrities are shorter in real life. I know that you are married, but I think even married men, sometimes especially married men, like to hear that young women find them attractive. I think you're dreamy!
Although I am probably not your biggest fan (because I haven't seen any of your movies), I would love it if you wrote back to me. I am a 22 year old Canadian University student and my dream is to travel to Japan or be a Disney princess - hopefully both! I read that you are Australian, did you have to see a speech therapist? On the show you don't sound Australian at all.
Your adoring, nubile, sexy, young fan,

theme...Help Me!
Why yes, there is a pattern to today's posts.
I NEED YOU!
I have gotten the best, best, best news! Kim and I will be go-go dancing at Lucky Bar for New Year's Eve and their party theme is...DISCO FEVER! EXCITEMENT!!!!
So, I want to wear my gold go-go boots and lots of gold make up. What I need is a gold sequined/ shiny dress. I prefer a halter but anything with straps is fine. I can't find anything even close on the internet and I've been on for hours. I am going to go to H+M boxing day afternoon/evening to look for one of these and I'm seeing what I can find at the mall tomorrow too.

thanks in advance for peeking around for me!

Hello Kitty Christmas!

Alright, so the always magical Veronica got me Hello Kitty jam-jam pants. (Yes, I call them that. Or jammies. Or jammie pants.) AND she also got me Hello Kitty panties. Now, I wish I could afford the $4,500 Hello Kitty Diamond Ring or the $120.00 Tarina Tarantino Pendant Necklace.
It should come as no surprise that Hello Kitty brand merchandise includes EVERYTHING. It is hilariously documented on one of my fav blogs: Hello Kitty Hell.
But! I was cruising the sanrio website and found the following:

A toaster that burns Hello Kitty's face onto my toast! Just what I've always wanted. A miniature tea set, for my sister, who collects tea cups and loves miniature things! The glamor-eskimo hello kitty plush doll! Imitation chanel quilted, chain-shoulder purse! A hello kitty throw blanket!
So much hello kitty stuff, so little time.
Lily Allen - The Fear

Alright, so as I'm sure you have gathered, I have been watching a lot of tv lately, music videos included. That is how I celebrate the holidays...and every other time of year.
The video the blogosphere is adoring right now is Lily Allen's "the fear". I have always liked her style - my memory tells me it includes designs by Baby, The Stars Shine Bright and Tarina Tarantino. In the video, she wears only one dress, this one: I will go tentitavly ahead and say it's a shift dress.
Veronica, what do you call the type of school-girl/sailor-girl collar emulated on the front of this dress? I love the keyhole detail on the back of the dress, the big bow on the front and I now must officially buy a pair of sheer black tights.
My only problem is - who designed this dress? Where could I buy it or dresses like it? I suspect it could be the Atelier Pierrot House Brand or Emily Temple Cute - both are japanese brands, however, they don't really do shift dresses. The video (the first part? because isn't the second supposed to be the palace of Versailles?) was filmed somewhere in England. So wouldn't it be styled by the English? hmmm.... please help me with this mystery.
vs.
Atelier Pierrot House Brand vs. Emily Temple Cute, two examples.

Tim Gunn
HAS A TV SHOW. "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style"
Why was I not informed? It is so awesome! It is like a much, much better version of what not to wear...and it has Tim Gunn. I HAVE A HUGE CRUSH ON HIM. Seriously, when he says "make it work" , I feel like he is speaking to my panties.
Okay, so, tell me, is he "over" or something? Is he uncool? is his show?
I am not going to stop watching the show, I'm just checking whether or not I should keep our affair a secret.
thank you!

DOS&DON'TS OF LOLITA
Alright, I came across these street snaps by KERA magazine (second only in my mind to the GOTHIC AND LOLITA BIBLE when it comes to reporting on lolita fashion) and MARUIONE.JP which is like a department store with an website that sells Japanese brands internationally.
DO (I GUESS...)
These girls are all wearing the same dress in different colours with standard accessories, in standard colours. Although I would do backflips of joy if I had said items - they are all by Angelic Pretty and they are NOT from the newest line. This dress or similar ones, patterned with sweets, are typical of sweet lolita.

DO (FOR REALS)
The girl below has all the same themes: bow in the hair, knee highs, mjs, cute purse (hello kitty's bow)...BUT it's done in butter yellow, which compliments her beautiful tan nicely. Although it is sleeveless it is the correct shape (bell skirt as opposed to a circle skirt) and length for a lolita dress.

DO (BABY STEPS)
Alright, the girl on the left is doing a very safe and classy version of EGL (Elegant Gothic Lolita). This is a good transition outfit for people like myself, who are baby-stepping into the style. Also, this is why you should go as pikachu for halloween next year, Vero!

DO (ACCESSORIES)
These are my step-ones. Like my frilly socks, if I slowly accumulate the following items I will become closer and closer to my ultimate goal - SWEET LOLITA!
one and two: HEART SHAPED PURSE, same one...I don't think it's the same girl though...but it looks so much like her...
three: adorable stuffed companion!
four: parasol!
five and six: I miss having pink hair. These are wigs though...so I could just get one.
six: Bonnets! I NEED ONE. More than any other accessory.

more to come...tune in next time for the don'ts!

Japanese Fashion Update
^ KERA Magazine's popular "Street Snap" corner, with snapshots of fashion from the streets of Harajuku Please note all of the above people are employees of "Angelic Pretty"... conflict of intrest? It is important to note that the girl on the right is wearing a jumper with no blouse or skirt - YOU CAN SEE HER BLOOMERS. Most Lolitas would faint onto their roccoco couches. It's important too that she does not claim that this is Lolita-style at all.

Bow Necklace

Digging all accessories with bows on them, I saw a bunch while romping through the mall with Vero, I think the acrylic cutout ...silhouette style here very interesting. This is "Whatever Lola Wants" by "Untamed Menagerie"
American Apparel
Wow, vero, was it you or Ish that told me the guy running the show at American Apparel was a disgusting pervert who took advantage of women and had board room blow jobs regularily?
It caught up with him...

"Yanyan" from the AA website who looks like a completely legit fashion model...
Click here for the latest news about it, apparently several sexual harrasment lawsuits have been filed against American Apparel.
It caught up with him...
The complaint alleges that Mr. Charney discussed business with the plaintiff while in the shower, kept naked pictures of female workers on the company's computer server, and took employees to "strip clubs under the guise of showing off T-shirts."

British Vouge Dec 2008

check out this incredible photo shoot staring Tim Burton and friends in December's British Vouge. Clearly they (the stylists at British Vouge) are pushing the WHITE TIGHTS agenda, which I adore, and so please excuse me while I go buy like three more pairs of opaque white tights.
This is my favourite picture of the spread, I NEED the shoes. I just found out today, as I was checking some style blog or another about this Georgia Jagger character. For someone who was born with so much cred, she doesn't seem very exciting or interesting. This photo is gold though. Vero, how much do you think those shoes cost? ...I dare you to find out for me! And then find me a similar pair that is more affordable. Fashion challenge!

in response to Ish!
Ish defined her screening process here...
I was disappointed for several reasons, first, because I SUPER do not qualify for the position of Ish's future boyfriend on account of the RPGing...and almost everything else on the list. I don't really drink coffee.
ALSO because none of the guys I have dated/am attracted to qualify. I guess it's a good thing we have different demographics otherwise we would be sniping each other's men all the time. Although, we could solve the problem of all being attracted to one another by just having a big orgy.
I too have thought about my screening process but as it turns out I'm not very picky.
1. not a criminal (although I'm kind of flexible on this...if there was a good reason, like communist literature at the border = jail time or something equaly excusable I could over look it.)
2. not a vegitarian/vegan (again, I'll let it go if you're okay with watching me devour raw fish...mmm...sashimi.)
3. must be a gentleman on the street (I like a well dressed man who is also charming! Opens doors, kisses my hand, ect.)
4. and a freak in bed (self explanitory)
5. no homophobes NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT, like a secret disinclination to gay people. UNACCEPTABLE. (seriously. I like to pretend that you homophobic people don't exist because it makes me too angry. I hope you bigots all fall down a well or something. Or just painlessly spontaneously combust.)

It was torture to choose my favourite photo from this editorial -
Magazine: Vogue Germany
Issue: October 2008
Title: Insel der sehnsuch
Photographer: Karl Lagerfeld
click for more photos from this editorial

But here it is. I adore the Elegant Gothic Lolita/ Elegant Gothic Aristocrat theme of this spread. Also, the location is just brilliant, I like the beach, the cliffs, the encroaching forest. It reminds me of "The Piano." I chose this photo because the hair is fantastic. I like wearing my hair this way - ITS ELEGANT OKAY I AM NOT BRUSHING IT ON PURPOSE!!! I LIKED ROOM WITH A VIEW, DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT?!

As usual, I will use this German fashion editorial to talk about Japanese Subculture Fashion.
While searching around for some examples of Elegant Gothic Lolita and Elegant Gothic Aristocrat, I found a comprehensive article which succinctly explains the usage of the word -
LOLITA

this is a scan from the "Gothic and Lolita Bible" which predates the above editorial... source
Which is absolutely one of the reasons why I am drawn to it. My penchant for the outrageous attracts me to styles which people will think ridiculous or offensive. I am not afraid of being laughed at! (Can I throw in my favourite quote ever? "The function of art is to disturb" - George Braque) another interesting perspective the article offers is its analysation of the conservative nature of an authentic lolita wardrobe:
It is not a stretch for me to proclaim the validity of the general statements that the following features have been for most of history and are still found attractive in women: youthfulness, virginity, innocence, obediance, ect. And squinting I think of the undeniable sexyness of big hipped/big breated women...which contradicts my previous statement...I did say this is about questions, I am circling the idea that "lolita fashion = (beauty-sexuality)" and yet "lolita fashion = (sexuality-shame)" when maybe it is just "lolita fashion = (sexuality, but only if you're a big pervert like Kiki and want to be spanked and call your lover Daddy.)
Where is the attaction in sexuality disguised as childishness/innocence. Is it just in the inherent desirability of taboos? Is it the influence of the christian ideal of virginity and cultural association of shame and sexuality? Is it the same element that makes rape fantasy so appealing - that women can relinquish the responsibily for and shame of the pleasure they feel...their sexuality? Perhaps it is so difficult for me to wrap my head around this because I'm such a... I believe "bottom" is the polite term (as opposed to BDSM nympho freak sub pervert = NSFW!!!).
Women should be able to bond with one another and emrace their sexuality at the same time. Women should be able to be openly and confidently sexual AND beautiful and respectable.
Women should be albe to play dress up and not need a reason.
and yet
would I enjoy dressing up in a giant frilly pink dress and bonnet and being called a good little girl while sucking cock like it was a lollipop as much if these statements were true?
Looking forward to your thoughts,
- Kieran

LOLITA
Although, in North America and Europe, one thinks automatically of Vladimir Nabokov when one sees the word Lolita, this subculture has never been about sex. Quite the opposite is true; this is girl culture for girl consumption. The Lolita wardrobe includes such demure items as high–collared, long–sleeved shirts and dresses, and skirt lengths that fall below the knee. It is quite likely that the use of Lolita, in this context of subculture, has origins in the Japanese practice of incorporating English words into their phrases and names, which creates an entirely new meaning. This may in turn have origins in the desire to enhance the prestige value of an item by linking it to the West.1The article, which is by Kyshah Hell for Morbid Outlook, goes on to quote my all time favourite blog (aside from your two blogs, obvs):
Subcultural participant Carmen Yuen states, “For me, I consider what’s provocative isn’t showing [a lot of] skin, but wearing a fashion that makes people take a step back.

this is a scan from the "Gothic and Lolita Bible" which predates the above editorial... source

(Can I throw in my favourite quote ever? "The function of art is to disturb" - George Braque) another interesting perspective the article offers is its analysation of the conservative nature of an authentic lolita wardrobe:
The Lolita subculture allows a form of socialization that is all female; it helps girls cement friendships within the common interest of creativity, and without the antagonism that male attention can create. This subcultural style is, according to Carmen Yuen, a way to feel very beautiful without having to sexualize yourself...[but] playing dress-up and looking cute is self-satisfying in its own right. There is an interesting feminist angle here. And I would agree with this point, if it didn't directly conflict with my personal documentation/love of the sexualisation of childhood themes. This raises a lot of questions for me. ( Mary Wollstonecraft's The Rights of Women adresses the enslavement of women by the imposition upon them of a man's ideal wife, which can succinctly be described as a "highly sexualised child."
It is not a stretch for me to proclaim the validity of the general statements that the following features have been for most of history and are still found attractive in women: youthfulness, virginity, innocence, obediance, ect.
